Good order management leads to faster delivery, fewer errors, and an overview of all your sales channels.
Why is order management important?
As your webshop grows, so does the pressure on your order processing: manual order picking, no real-time overview of order statuses, and disconnected systems that don’t talk to each other lead to errors, delays, and unhappy customers. If you also sell through multiple channels, things quickly become unclear without centralized order management.
Good order management prevents these problems and delivers concrete benefits:
Shorter lead time
The faster an order moves from intake to shipping, the sooner a customer has their package at home. With automated control of picking, packing, and shipping processes, you significantly shorten the time between order receipt and shipment, without sacrificing accuracy.
Fewer errors in order handling
A wrong item, an incorrect address, or a missed deadline costs time, money, and customer trust. By automating order processing and connecting it to barcode scanners or pick-to-light systems, you significantly reduce the risk of human error and prevent unnecessary returns and complaints.
Satisfied customers thanks to tracking and reliable delivery
Customers want to know where their package is. Real-time tracking information and a reliable delivery time build trust, even when something goes wrong along the way. This way, the customer experience stays intact, even during busy periods or peaks in order volume.
Overview across all your sales channels
Do you sell through your own webshop, marketplaces, and perhaps physical stores too? Then it’s essential to manage all orders centrally. Good order management brings order flows from all your channels together in one system, so you never lose track.
How you organize your order management depends on how you’ve set up your logistics. If you use Monta’s fulfillment service, we process your orders for you. If you choose our WMS software, you manage your order management yourself.

How Monta processes your orders
If you use Monta's fulfillment service, every order follows the same careful route: from the moment a customer checks out to the package arriving at the front door. Below, you can read what that looks like, step by step.
Order receipt and confirmation
As soon as a customer places an order, we receive and confirm it directly in our system. This gets processing underway immediately, without delays from manual checks.
Allocating stock and picking
Our system automatically allocates the right stock and directs the picking process, so the right items are collected quickly and accurately.
Quality control and packaging
Before an order leaves our warehouse, we check that everything is correct and package it carefully, to size and according to our own quality standards.
Shipping and delivery
We coordinate with local carriers, so every package is delivered on time and to the right place, regardless of destination.
Follow-up and returns management
Even after delivery, we stay involved: we track the delivery and handle any returns quickly and carefully, so the customer experience remains complete.
This way, you don't have to worry about a thing, from the first click to the last step.
Smart technology and integrations behind every order
Our systems and technology ensure that every order, from intake to shipping, runs smoothly and accurately.
35+ integrations
As soon as a customer places an order, the order data flows automatically into our system, thanks to more than 35 integrations with e-commerce platforms, marketplaces, carriers, and ERP systems. Doesn't your specific tool fit in? Then we'll build a custom integration.
Smart and sustainable order picking
With barcode scanners, put-to-light systems, and an e-check wall, we process orders accurately and efficiently, without unnecessary paper use or error-prone pick lists. This way, we pick faster and more sustainably.
Robotics and AutoStore
For larger volumes, we use robotic systems that bring products to the picker, combined with our AutoStore integration. This makes order processing faster and more accurate, even during busy periods.
AI and predictive analytics
We use AI to predict busy periods and peaks, so we can adjust our processes in advance. This way, the processing of your orders keeps running smoothly, even when volume suddenly increases.
This way, we combine scale with precision, without sacrificing speed.
35+ integrations and smart technology ensure every order is processed quickly and without errors.

If you use Monta's WMS software, you go through the same five phases as with fulfillment, but carried out yourself in your own warehouse, controlled by our software.
Step 1: Order receipt
Orders from webshops, marketplaces, and ERP systems flow automatically into MontaWMS. Every order is immediately registered, assigned the right priority, and prepared for processing in your warehouse, without manual entry or delay.
Step 2: Order processing
MontaWMS guides your employees in your warehouse along the shortest pick route, supported by pick lists, barcode scanners, pick-to-light, or put-to-light. Every item is scanned and checked via e-check, after which the order is packed without errors.
Step 3: Order shipping
The system automatically selects the right carrier based on weight, destination, and delivery time, generates the shipping label, and sends real-time tracking information to the customer. No manual step required.
Step 4: Order handling
After shipping, MontaWMS tracks the order status via the carrier. Any issues, such as delays or undelivered shipments, are flagged immediately. Returns are processed through the integrated return portal and booked back into the stock in your warehouse.
Step 5: Order optimization
Analyze how orders are processed in your warehouse and optimize with, for example, hardware integrations, applications, or additional modules, such as the checkout module of MontaWMS.
Essential once manual order processing starts to slow down your growth

Not a separate OMS layer, but order management software that actually works.
Why choose the order management software of MontaWMS?
The order management software of MontaWMS isn't built as a separate OMS layer, but is fully woven into the WMS, the shipping software, and the return portal. Order data flows automatically through all systems, without manual synchronization or separate applications. We use that same software every day in our own 20+ fulfillment warehouses, where hundreds of employees process orders for more than 3,000 webshops. With 100+ developers continuously developing the system further and 25+ years of hands-on logistics experience, we offer order management that works. Not just in a demo, but day in, day out in the real operation.
An OMS (Order Management System) focuses on managing the order flow from purchase to delivery. A WMS (Warehouse Management System) focuses on the physical warehouse processes: storage, picking, and shipping. MontaWMS combines both: order management and warehouse management are fully integrated into one platform, so no data exchange is needed between separate systems.
What is order management?
Order management is the entire process from the moment a customer places an order to the moment it's delivered, including any return processing. This includes receiving and confirming the order, picking, packing, and shipping, and tracking the status through to delivery. With order management software, this entire process is automated and streamlined, making order processing faster and more accurate.
Is there a difference between order management, order processing, and order handling?
In practice, these terms are often used interchangeably. Order processing usually refers to the operational steps needed to handle an order, such as picking, packing, and shipping. Order handling and order management are more often used for the broader system or process with which you direct and oversee that order flow, including channels, stock, and returns. At Monta, these parts flow seamlessly into each other: our order management software drives the entire order process, whether you call it order handling or order management.
Can order management software process orders from multiple sales channels?
Yes. Our order management software connects with all major webshop platforms (such as Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, and Shopware), international marketplaces (such as bol.com, Amazon, and Zalando), and ERP systems (such as AFAS, Exact, and SAP). Orders from all these channels come in centrally and are processed through the same automated processes, whether you use fulfillment or work with our WMS software.
How does the system determine which warehouse an order is shipped from?
As soon as an order comes in, our system looks at the delivery address and the availability of the item to determine the best warehouse location for shipping. This optimizes transport times and costs, and gets the order to the customer as quickly as possible.
